I have five years' experience fishing down south in a Hobie Outback.  This ocean here in Florence does not appear to be on the same planet.  I'd appreciate the opportunity to identify clothing/equipment, etc. that I need for my new home.  I've been here in Florence for seven years and have not yet done any ocean fishing.  Thanks for any advice you can give me.

How does the Florence ocean differ from the Newport Beach ocean?  Obviously, temperature, but how else?

As regards your question, dress for immersion.

Generally a drysuit is going to offer you the most comfort and safety. Dressing for immersion is important and basically means wear enough layers to be warm in 40-50 degree water for and extended period. You will also have to be a lot more selective on what days you choose to head out in. There is a good article on the main page about reading the forecast. A fish finder and a GPS are nice pieces of equipment to have as well but not absolutely required. Do you still have your outback?
