Hello Washingtonians.

I'll be driving up from the South and I'm looking for the first location that offers good pink fishing.  I'd like to save some time and gas and not drive further North than I have to.  I've read all the WA pink report threads but I'm having trouble figuring out which are the southernmost locations.

Can any WA pink experts help me out?  Are there Pinks to be had around Olympia?  I was thinking about launching off the end of "solo point" rd and trolling SW towards the Nisqually delta.  Would this be a good idea or bad?  Google earth often doesn't tell the whole story and I'm wondering if Fort Lewis might restrict access?  Any better options?  I'd like to stay in the salt and not drift a river.

Thanks and if anyone would like to go pink fishing with me in the South Sound I'd enjoy the company.

The action is starting to really pick up in the area you're talking about (Sequalichew Creek) and will continue to improve over the next couple weeks. The Solo Pt launch is restricted access JBLM property requiring DoD registrations for vehicles. The MPs regulary patrol the site and vehicles without proper registration are subject to tow. You can hit the same water with the same effort by launching from the Washington State launch at Luhr beach on the south side of the Nisually Reach and headling north across the Nisqually mouth.

Good luck! I could easily be persuaded to join you depending on when you decide to hit it.

Thanks for the info.  Don't want to mess with the DOD.  I'll look up Luhr beach.  When I go I'll send a pm, would be great if you could make it.

I was at the mouth of the Nisqually yesterday from about 3 to 7 pm (incoming tide) and launched from Luhr ramp. I got one pink about 22" for my effort. There are a few out there, but it's not wide open pink fishing.

From the reports I hear, Dash Point near sunset sounds like some of the best pink fishing in the sound right now. It's a much shorter paddle from the launch to the fishing, and is probably a better bet that you'll get something. I'd drive the extra 30 minutes north. You'll spend all that time and more paddling from the Luhr ramp to the mouth of the Nisqually anyway.

If you have more time head another hour up the road to Seattle and I'll take you out. Lots of pinks and coho coming in at Shilshole Bay just north of Seattle right now. And coho taste a lot better than pinks anyway.

Thanks guys.  It sounds like dash point is the place to be.  I can drive a bit further for better fishing.  Probably will be Tuesday or Wednesday for me.  I'll check in here on Monday to see who else might like to hook up at dash.
