I'm a Floridian and have spend a lot of time in Bend trout fishing. I'm ready for the 'big boys' and planning on a trip to the Oregon Coast on Oct 7 for salmon fishing. I would greatly appreciate  any suggestions on some of the better places to salmon fish this time of year. Hopefully my timing isn't bad due to the recent storm messing things up! I'm thinking maybe the Siletz, Salmon, Yaquina, or Alsea Rivers???  I recently purchased a Hobie Mirage and hope to break it in! Thanks!

All those rivers are great choices and should be fishable by then. They are on the drop now and the fish should be spreading out by then.

Howard-

you are coming at a great time and we are having great salmon runs this year, as you noted, the weather has just tossed a series of big storms at us but the rivers are settling down and many of us are expecting (hoping) that we will get back to more hot chinook and coho fishing by this weekend.

I am not sure that any river is better than another this year and note that we have 3 lakes here in the central coast that just opened for coho (I got a nice one yesterday at Siltcoos Lake tossing spinners from my PA12...)....here is the link on overall wild coho rules this year in case you haven't reviewed them:  http://www.dfw.state.or.us/resources/fishing/docs/2013_coho_fisheries.pdf

cheers, roger

Does anyone have some suggestions on kayak launch areas on the Alsea River?   Someplace easy to launch kayaks without too much treachery and danger (yeah, i know, i'm a weenie), but access to salmons!  THanks, Barb
