Hello all,

My name is Paul, or Mregg if that's to hard to remember. I have been a lurker, troll, salivating jealous person for a while now. I love fishing, but just started taking it seriously for past few years. It started by humping the banks of eagle creek, clackamas, sandy, and deschutes with friends. Then I learned about lazy days on the river plunking for fall chinook. Add some fly fishing and ultralight trout/bass fishing here and there, and finally cap it off with Sturgeon. I mostly do catch and release but when the season and quality of the fish come together I don't mind tasting the great fish we have here.

My wife and I have been talking about a boat for a while since I've been fishing less and less. I've done a few guided trips and multiple outings with my father in his Alumaweld, but I need my own. After months of research I decided a Hobie Kayak would re-spark my passion and get me on the water more. We tried catching the good deals every now and then, but always missed them. Finally I went to Next Adventure and the service was outstanding. To the point, we decided to purchase a brand new 2014 Outback in Dune. They offered a great discount on accessories. So we added turbo fins, sailing rudder, anchor trolley, drive leash, and a decent pdf so I'd actually wear it. I couldn't be happier with the purchase! A good chunk of savings for a young family like ours, but they made us feel good about it. We even were car topping it and forgot our straps and they just gave us some for free (it's the little things).

I hope to become a contributing member and would love it if a few people would want to show me the ropes in north west kayak angling.

Thank You,
MrEgg

Thank you all. Where do I search in the forums for upcoming events? Including kayak safety, paddle (not peddle techniques), and clubs to join?

One thing to do for events is to monitor this board: Events

Or you can do what many users do and just monitor the most recent topics by clicking on the "Recent Topics" link at the top of the page.

We are having a meet up tonight in southwest if you're free.  We've been talking about it in this thread: PDX Crew Monthly Meet Ups

Thank you rawkfish. I am in sunny/smoggy California this week unfortunately. As many have mentioned, when water temps are in the forties I need to be sure of my abilities and gear. Hopefully another pool based class or meet up will happen in the future, and I can practice re-entry and see how waders and fleece+splash top (just a good rain coat) handle under warm water.
