Got my first greenling of the year out of Bowman Bay. Great day on the water, several greenling, a rock cod (carefully released)' and some nice weather .  My goal this year is to get 10 species .  Happy new year everyone.  Wayne

Hey bud. Go to the south side of deception island in that kelp bed. All I'm going to say is  ;D . Schools. How was that greenling?. I ruined my phone today. It took a swim at my feet. Lost the picture of the big one about 20 inches. Got about 20 over there.  I should have been there all morning.

If your phone stores pictures on a memory card, they should still be on it, and retrievable.

Thanks coho man.  Fish tacos on the menu for tomorrow.  Did you paddle out to Deception island or over to northwest island? Will be hitting Mukilteo soon for flounder.   Bummer about you phone.  I need to get  a waterproof camera before  I dunk my phone.

Add in another competitor for AOTY 2014, by fishing buddy Ali. He bagged a big cutty today on Lake Washington.  Game on!

Nice job getting out there! Some friendly advice for posting your AOTY fish for 2014. Mouth needs to be completely closed, even if you need to hold it closed while taking the pictures. You should also mark off the ticks on your hog trough with a sharpie so you and the judges can more clearly see measurement. Unfortunately the above pic wouldn't be approved for 2014.

Unfortunately the above pic wouldn't be approved for 2014.

To be clear, the greenling would not be approved.  The trout meets the criteria becuase the mouth is being held shut and the score lines are visible. (Though it would be nice if the score lines were MORE visible.

Thanks for the info.  I took these pic right when I landed, threw the greenling on ice and headed home.  I read Allen's 2014 changes before I cleaned and filleted. I took new pics (though the fish aren't as bright.) I still need to get the sharpie out.  Hopefully the new pics will suffice.

Nice! It's always SUPER crappy to have to DQ nice fish, especially the first one of the year!

I take full responsibility and apologize profusely.  I slipped in not getting up the new rules sooner.  I just lost track of time in the holidays.  I really hope the new pics come out good.

My first fish of 2013 was DQ'd. It would have been the highest scoring surf perch of 2013 if I had read the rules before taking my pictures.  :-[

As for the mouth shut rule...I think it's a great idea and it will undoubtedly alleviate some headaches for the aoty committee.

Good luck in 2014. Take lots of pictures.
 Tight lines and tighter lips!

Not a big deal. Just gives more opportunities to upgrade.  Lips open or closed, it was a damn tasty meal.
