If you decide to use grips, be careful with the the cheapo plastic ones. Like Captain Redbeard said, broken jaws are problematic if you don't let them free spin on the wrist sling. That presents its own set of safety concerns though. Boga or  Lucid are the way to go IMO. I'm obviously a little biased, but Lucid are essentially the same thing as Boga for half the cost. Here's a video of them in action.

BTW ... holding a large fish by the tail is a good way to break it's spine ... please don't do that to a fish you plan on releasing.

I have both Boga and Lucid grips and prefer the Lucid because it is lighter and works as well as my Boga. For tournament fishing I use a big salmon net otherwise I use the Lucid grips and thigh slide lings over 15#
