I decided to build a drift anchor mount for my 2010 Hobie Outback. I found a lot of plans for the Trident kayaks but I needed something that would allow use of the twist and stow rudder as well as being easy to take on and off. I intend to use it on the smaller rivers where you want to deploy anchor quickly and accurate so I can be in the right area. I have spent a lot of time on drift boats so that is where my mind was design wise. I also wanted it to leave no trace when it isn't installed.
With all that in mind I decided to use the area where the rudder stowaway bungee is located. By removing the bungee and opposite cleat you are left with two stout mounting points. I drilled holes in these two locations and placed rubber stoppers with holes for the bolts into the mounting points. I then fabricated the drift anchor assembly out of steel and drilled matching holes to bolt it onto the mounting points. I reinforced this assembly by running a support to a cleat I had already installed. I can tighten the tension on the support with the wing nut. I will add another pulley to the. Front using a short section of PVC in the molded rod holder. I may also add a guide or two between the rear pulley and front pulley to prevent the rope from becoming tangled should I have to ditch the anchor quickly. Paint is drying now, can't wait to test it. Sorry if this is a confusing write up.

Looks good man!  You may need to kick it over to line up with the centerline of your yak but hopefully the soft bottom lines of the outie won't have you turning sideways.  I think if you have the rudder deployed you can probably compensate for any swing if you do.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

Looks sweet!  I may add a support bracket to mine like yours has, just for added strength.

Interesting solution for the drift anchor...but, I really wonder about locating the fish finder transducer on your rudder......every time you adjust the rudder, the transducer also moves...how does that effect the display stability?

As long as the transducer is pointing straight down, it doesn't matter which way the rudder turns.

Thanks Spot, I will test it out and see what happens. Dr. Steelhead, I had problems with my fishfinder in 80 plus feet of water. I have the Lowrance x-4 and tried the duct seal and foam puck. I decided to go with the rudder mount and really like it.
