Have a Hobie Mirage Classic.

Not really designed as a fishing yak, have added Ram mounts w/tubes so far.

Really needed a little more storage accessible from the seat - saw the 6" Hobie hatches on KFS and figured it shouldn't be too hard to add a center hatch.

Install took about 1hr.

I used the backing plate for the hatch as a template and did most of the cutting with hole saws and a dremel tool stuck in a routing attachment.

Covered all mounting surfaces with Marine Goop - If I find it leaks at all (don't think it will) - will add another half-dozen stainless machine screws and fender washers to really get a strong mechanical seal.

Hey Spoonchucker;  good neat work, and thanks for the pics!  Looks like a Hobie factory job.

Just curious; what is a Mirage "Classic"?  What year?  Mine's an '07 Sport:

Think my Mirage Classic is an '01 or '02.

The model is discontinued, but they still have pics and specs on the Hobie website.

The Mirage Classic is the one that started it all for Hobie w/ the Mirage drive. Back when they had nylon sails for fins. You can still catch what they used to look like in this little animation.

Check out the little rib supports (black) on the little white sails.
