Has anyone upgraded a "4" or "5" series Lowrance unit with a Navionics Chip? I've been considering upgrading my Elite-4 with their "Marine and Lake" chip. The base maps loaded in my unit are pretty good, but I wonder how much better the unit could be...question is, are the Navionics chips worth the $$$$ over the preloaded Lowrance charts?

for the last 6 months I was using the Elite 4 with standard charts.  when it died a horrible blue screen of death I upgraded to the 5 with the navonics charts.  I havn't had it out on the water yet, but just by looking at the difference in scrolling over areas I fished with the elite 4 it looks to be pretty sweet --- just too bad I lost all my waypoints  :-[

I recommend going to the webpage and view the coverage maps for the areas you want.  I was not pleased to find out (on the river) that it stopped showing the Columbia River North of Richland.  From there it is hit and miss all the way to  Entiat (with a lot of miss). >:(

+1

It's not quite as detailed as the actual chips, but it's detailed enough.  Shows most of the rocks that go awash out at hobuck for example.

Most of the water I fish isn't listed so I won't buy it.
