Do you like to catch salmon? If you are like me and like to put a few salmon in the freezer each year please consider coming to this event.

The movie is a project that Lance Fisher, guide and radio talk show host, has been working on for the past five years or more. The movie will be at the Mission Theatre at 6:00 pm Jan. 30Th.

"The story that must be told. Sport, Tribal, and Commercial fishermen don't always agree and are often times at odds with each other, but we agree that hatchery and wild salmon are very important to our way of life. Hatchery and Wild will present another way forward with our fish runs that involves cooperation and a future of abundant hatchery and wild Salmon and Steelhead.

Come join us for dinner, drinks and a review of the documentary which will be followed by a panel of Sport, Commercial and Tribal participants. There is a suggested cost of $10 at the door, but we do not want finances to keep you from seeing this very important documentary." By Lance Fisher

This will be a starting point to get multiple groups together to save our salmon. We will have the opportunity to have a few beers and dinner with people with different aspects but with  the one goal of conserving our salmon.

Thanks Doughboy/Stephen

I will let everyone know Roy. NW Steelheaders has a page on their website that list when the movie is showing. For us that are thinking about going Thursday you can go to Mcmenamin's website to get more info on the show. On facebook Lance has started an event post and you let Hatchery and Wild know you are going.

I added it my schedule only to remember that the kayak Maintenance clinic is the same night.  Please let me know if they are going to show the movie again and if the discussion after the movie will be recorded.

Just got home from the movie and panel discussion. The movie will be available through the site hatcheryandwild.com and they also have a petition that can be signed. What was most striking about the night was how big of a fight we have before us if we want to have fish for all. The goal of the tribes in the Columbia basin if for all of us to have fish. The tribe's representative told us that right now we are only producing hatchery fish for a few. The tribes are planning to continue their conservation efforts of taking hatchery fish and releasing them in tributaries that do not have fish runs currently. We need to work alongside them in the effort to change policies that stop our conservation efforts. If you know someone that believes our only hope is native fish and we should close all hatcheries, please ask them to name one river system that has improved with the removal of the hatchery. In the movie they discussed the highlights of the Sol Duc and how the fishing has changed since the closure of the hatchery. One audience member gave a report on the ODFW meeting in Tillamook about the multi species plan. They will be closing all volunteer programs, this means no whiskey creek spring Chinook and Trask River hatch box fall Chinook. We will see a collapse of fish populations and opportunity for us to fish. The goal of hatchery and wild is to encourage each of us to understand the issue and help those around us to understand what is happening. So much is at stake I plan on joining NW Steelheader or the CCA this week. Please get involved

that is an outstanding documentary, the Florence STEP group runs a wild broodstock hatchery program for winter steelhead that sounds similar to what was used on the Sol Duc, we got word that it will continue for 10 years under the new multi-species plan, so unless that info was wrong, I don't think all the volunteer programs are going away.  we need more programs like this, not less.   cheers, roger
