Yep, I live in Florida.  I hope the forum members are not too territorial.

I have a Hobie Revolution (with Mirage Drive with Turbo fins).  The boat I'm using in my profile picture is a Perception Swing.  I'll update the profile pic, eventually.

I found this forum looking for a DIY battery box.  I found a thread with 168 posts (7606.60).

I've done a lot of DIY kayak projects which I Youtube as user "jandbrare".  I fitted outriggers to a Current Designs, Kestrel model.  Also, an over-the-side transducer mount.  I'm still trying to find the best mounting for the 3 action cameras I own (1-AEE SD-19 and 2-Veho MUVI HD10's).  I use the AEE on a post mount in front of me and one of the MUVI HD-10's on the bill of my baseball cap.

We kayakers are a little obsessive, I fear.  Many of us spend more time tinkering than using our yaks.  I do, I know.  After all, 168 posts on a DIY battery box that evolved into a discussion of battery types and charger types.  And, the whole time I'm reading...all 168 of them...I'm favoring the contributors who said, "Why do you even need a battery box" and "You don't need a fuse to protect the fish finder because it won't. If the fish finder is the source of the high current draw, it's already fried."

But, my power-boating friends find me a little odd, what with always tinkering with a 13-foot plastic boat that weighs much less than 100 lbs.  "Why don't you just get a real boat.  Oh, yeah, the boat got a little heavy for me to put on top of my SUV, so I bought a Harbor Freight utility trailer and modified it to be longer and carry a couple of more kayaks, if necessary.  Here I am with a second one on top of the trailer.

I fish for Largemouth Bass, mostly.  I like baitcasting equipment and crankbaits best.  Caught this 8lb-1oz Bass this past July.  That's not as big as the fish you guys catch in the Northwest and not even as big as the Bass get here in Florida, but it was good enough for a Florida TrophyCatch Citation (>8).  The citation comes with a $50 gift card to Bass Pro Shops, tee shirt, certificate, and decal, which I applied to the bow of my Revo.

I was wearing my "CapCam" and also recording with the AEE cam on a Scotty mount extension.  I produce my videos with Corel VideoStudio Pro X6.

I have been to the Gulf of Mexico a few times: Crystal River and Homosassa, but have never been rewarded with a good catch.  Got this footage last trip to Crystal River:

I enjoy tinkering with the outfitting and producing movies as much as time on the water.  I'm always anxious to start producing a movie after a fishing trip.

BTW, it's 50F here, today, so I'm not going fishing.  Too cold.

welcome to the forum but man, your killing me.   50F?  That's t-shirt and shorts weather.  I think it's supposed to hit 30F here today if we're lucky.

Thanks for the welcome and Bass appreciation.  Hope I can catch another 8+ this year.  Hope you do, too.

Hey Jerry!

Welcome to the Great Pacific Northwest from a tad further East than you. (I'm in Jacksonville)

I hope the forum members are not too territorial.

Man, this has to be one of the least obnoxious and informative yakfishing communities on the intired interweb.  I've been haunting them for almost 8 years and they still haven't banned me! :dontknow:

I tend to spend too much time thinking and not enuf fishing too. But if you ever want to take a little ride in the direction of the sunrise, I'd be happy to meet you at the Indian River Lagoon to chase reds as long as your leg.

50F? That's t-shirt and shorts weather.

I think it topped out at 60 here today and I did. (but then I put on a sweatshirt as it was a little breezy) ;D

Thanks.  I'd like to do that someday.  I've been to the Gulf a few times but didn't hit them.  Not much further to Indian River Lagoon.

Hi Jerry,  I was in Jax at the beginning of the month and yakfished, with my buddy Robert, in the creeks off the Inter-Coastal Waterway.  We caught a few nice flounder, drum, and specks.  However it was as cold and windy as it is here in Oregon.  Odd for Florida.  Welcome to the forum.
