I've been running one of these when they first were released with down imaging and just now starting to get the hang of it. Now I am rigging a new (to me) Revo, and considering of just buying a second 'Ducer and power cable to switch the head unit between 2 kayaks. I see they are now listed as being discontinued (and great pricing). Anybody know why these are being discontinued? I'm assuming its because of something newer/better is out but I see the 598 side imaging unit is being discontinued as well, but the 688ci HD DI is not. ???

I think they discontinued it because a lot of the units had issues with positional accuracy which throws off the speed reading.

In fact it looks like the whole 500 series is being discontinued. I wonder what makes the 688 any different? It's nearly identical and costs is just a little bit more.

I believe the 700 series is being discontinued as well.  I bought my 798ci just before it made it to their "Legacy" web page.

Companies ALWAYS discontinue product lines. What was up-to-date technology a few years ago can be produced quicker, faster, and more cheaply with new tech.  It is called "The Product Cycle".

Having two identical head units is a good idea. If you like your current unit, and the price is good, my suggestion is buy it.
