This trip to the Front Range is gonna be nothing but freshwater access. Will have to rent a yak some place.

While in a huge rush to pack, forgot my lightweight little telescope spinner. What am presented with here, well its a lot different selection.

So, what I have to chose from in travel rods are

Ugly Stick GX 2 3pc, 8-17lb @6ft 6 $45.00

Fenwick Methods 7 pc, length and action varies, you get a multi piece rod kit that allows you to set up from 6ft 6 to 7ft 6 in medium to heavy actions, depending on which parts you fit up. Line range from 10-25 lb. $155.00

and lastly

Browning Safari. 3-4 pc, 8-17 lb line,  light to medium action, 6ft 6 to 7ft 6 depending on the model. $115.00

Bearing in mind, this is going to be mostly stocker lake and alpine trout action. I don't see myself doing a lot of trolling or bottom bouncing for walleye etc.

Anyway, those are the choices I have and roughly what my conditions will be. Out of the 3, which would you pick?

cant go wrong with the ugly stick.  the others seem to have nice bells and whistles, but the ugly stick is by far the best bang for the buck IMO.

I have a medium heavy Ugly Stick GX2 casting rod that I use for bass and really like it...surprisingly sensitive for a rod under $50. Also have a tiger lite jigging rod that I'm pretty pleased with. I hate to pay more than $100 for rods as I'm really hard on them but I've yet to bust an Ugly Stick.

Thanks guys. I figured most guys would opt for Uglies just on price point. Remember, this is a breakdown/ travel rod that gets tossed into a Sterilite or Rubbermade trunk along with other nice to haves when living in hotels for extended periods. It has to be a good general purpose set up I can grab and go with on a hours notice or less and I want it to be around a while. the 3 I mentioned, seemed to be the best of the lot. And sorry, much as I love the SST travels there are none locally.
