How dry is the outback ride on flat water?

What should I be aware of as I have never ridden one?

The Outback is a super dry ride on flat water. If you are facing a a strong head wind and chop you could get soaked in a hurry. You should have no problems in normal conditions.
It seems like the Revo is a wet ride no matter what the conditions.

I'd say it rides a lot higher in the water than my mini x. So getting back in is a lot harder than my mini-x which is a lot more like sliding onto  floating piece of plywood.

Also it seems like everyone upgrades to a sailing rudder and turbo fins. The reason is that the massive rudder and fins "grip" the water more. If you are in a fast current (more like river speed) it will grab the water and it "feels" like you may flip. I never have but definitely have had episodes that caused me to pucker up a bit.

You should be aware that once you try it, you'll not want to go back.

My quick shake down cruise alerts me to a number of things.

First, I am fat. I have lost around 30 pounds lately, but I'm still pretty hefty.

Beyond that... Some questions thoughts etcetera...

The outback is shorter then my t13... And I noticed it. I'm not sure that is made a difference, but I definitely noticed it.

The trays are nice, but it's gonna take a while to figure out where stuff should go.

The seating position... I'm not sure I like it. I imagine it is like most new things. You get used to it. It was irritating that my seat kept popping loose.

What are the numbers on the drive for?

What is some good non-gym activity that can build endurance for the muscles used powering the drive? Would lots of walking be sufficient?

It moved through the water well. I was wishing I knew how fast I was moving... Next time I will take my gps with me.

I had hoped to fall immediately I love, I did not. I enjoyed for flirtation and am looking forward to another connection... If I name the boat then I will know we are meant to be.

The numbers refer to the positions of the drive pedals, which change the length of the pedal stroke, depending on how tall you are etc you may need to change it if not comfortable.

I find bike riding is a very applicable workout for the mirage drive. Lots of walking definitely is a good start though.

In terms of the seat sliding, I put knots in the seat straps to keep it from sliding back. I find its best to sit upright as possible otherwise it becomes a major abdominal workout!

I hate the old style seats!!!!!!!! I ordered the new locking pegs but have yet to install them. It's like building a frickin Ferrari and using Saran Wrap for the windows. The seat though, locking or not is the weak point of the entire hobie set up in my opinion. There are factory replacements. Just haven't tried them.

I put some deep scratches in my pegs and they seem to hold a lot better. So well in fact, it can be a pain to yank them out after being coated in sand

The seat definitely sucks. I need to get some extra padding and see if that helps with the horrific back pain that I suffer after trolling for hours.

The numbers on the drives are for leg length adjustment, push the black gaurd on the inside edge of each peddle and shift the peddle forward or back to the desired position. As for endurance, just keep at it and that will improve. Now the outback being more stable isnt the fastest ship in the sea but if the seat and peddles are adjusted correctly it should by no means be taxing under normal conditions, that being said giving her a nick name might change your opinion of her performance. I encourage everyone to Demo demo demo before you throw your wallet at a watercraft as there is no one kayak that is for everyone.

+1. Of course in Alaska, not much choice. But get it and use it.

My first trip in my outback I thought I would never make it back to shore my knees hurt so bad. I even paddled a ways.  The next trip I adjusted the peddles and went for hours without pain. Makes a huge difference.
