I purchased a used 2013 Hobie Outback about a month ago. Took it out for the first time last weekend, and I LOVE it! However, after 4 hours of peddling, I found the seat cushion to be inadequate. My back was fine, as there is extra padding there. My backside, not so much. I realize that Hobie sells an inflatable add-on seat cushion, but I came across a different product that is intriguing.

I was at Sportsman's Warehouse the other day and came across this inadvertently. I brought it home for $20, so it is a cheaper option than the Hobie product (go figure). It is called a Lava Seat. It is super comfortable to sit on, and has the added benefit of being a heating device. You simply remove the inner pouch and heat it in the microwave. Reinsert the pouch to the case and you're good to go. What's impressive is that it is the perfect size for the Hobie seat. Now I haven't actually tried the new cushion fishing yet, but it appears to be promising. I'll be sure to provide an update in the near future. Here are a few pics.

Lava Seat Added to Hobie Seat

The Lava Seat has two webbing loops that work perfectly with the Hobie seat webbing snaps. I simply ran the Hobie straps right through the loops before attaching to the pad eye clip.

This is the packaging the product came in.

dberd,

Heading up to Merwin on tomorrow morning. I plan on bringing the seat. I'll post a review (and hopefully a favorable fishing report  :)) when I get back. Going to try taking advantage of the shallow water levels up there right now in hopes that few power boats are on the lake.

Hey,Heat....hooked 4, caught 3 today @ Merwin...13-14". Terrible wind, rain, followed by sunshine, flat water. Water is coming back up,ramps are ok..there will be PB'ers, but even when its busy I dont find it a problem..fish are spread out,so are the boats.Would love to go again, dont think I have enough wife points gathered.....but ya never know..she might want me out of the house.
Hope to hear good reports on fish and seat!

Anyone ever try these?  Any reason they couldn't be used in an outback?

I used to have the GTS Expedition seat on one of my boats that I have since sold. The seat didn't seem any more comfortable than the GTS Pro seat to me and the higher back makes it a little more difficult to get at things behind you. I don't know anything about Hobie and seat compatibility.
