Alright guys and gals.....

I've got some friends coming up this summer over towards Seward for a few days.  We've already got the fishing taken care of (3 days of halibut/ling/rockfish trips), but I haven't really done much in Seward other than hike or fish.  Any suggestions?

They asked about the boat tours into Kenai Fjords park.... I don't know anything else outside of a ton of hiking around the peninsula.

Thanks
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

There's something in life other than fishing?  Whooaaa...revelation!  lol.

How about stand up paddling boarding amongst the glaciers.  Chris is a great guy!

I send or take visitors to Seward frequently. Here's a few things I recommend:

1. Alaska Sea Life Center -- check their website to coordinate visits with feeding times. I particularly enjoy viewing the diving sea birds from below the water surface, and standing next to the glass when Woody, the mature male sea lion, swims by. Truly impressive.

2. Hike from Lowell Point to Caines Head. This one needs to be timed with low tide, but it's well worth the effort. Access to WWII lookouts, and the opening to PWS and the rest of Kenai Fjords. In good weather, spectacular views on an easy hike.[/li][/list]

3. Exit Glacier -- getting up close and personal with the glacier seems to please the visitors...

4. Ray's -- good higher-end food while overlooking the small boat harbor

5.  Kenai Fjords Tours -- Always a hit. Unless the fishing charter intends to seek out sea lion rookeries or whale watching, this wouldn't be redundant. Comfortable, good interpretive naturalists on board.  I'm not a fan of the Fox Island BBQ options (food's not that great) and would rather go all the way to Holgate Glacier than stop at Fox.

There's a B&B we like right on Lowell Point, too. Are you fixed on accomodations?

When I was in Seward I did #1 and #3 and was really glad I did. Be aware that if you want to go all the way to the top of Exit Glacier it's a significant hike... I consider myself in pretty good shape (at the time) and I was surprised how challenging it was. Worth it, though!

They are, but I don't have anything booked yet .  Still deciding between camping and something more civilized.
I'll be fishing 3 days straight....I'm bound to need at least 1 shower

I took family out on the Kenai Fjords tours each time a new member came up to visit. Always had a good time (recommend dramamine or similar if necessary), and saw enough things to keep the guests excited. I agree--skip the bake. And, I'd add, if time permits to take the longer trip b/c they go out farther, and there are more opportunities to see wildlife and glaciers.

We haven't gone out on one of those in a long time, but for first time visitors, it was always a hit.
