Evening Gentleman,
I am embarking on my first season of kayak fishing, and I just bought a Necky Zoar Sport Angler. I figured out all of the rigging, except the anchor trolley. Anybody want to kick me some knowledge on how to rig up my anchor? ???

welcome to the madness armyjim, You found the right spot for all things Kayak.Lots of good knowledge here. I don't have an anchor trolley on mine, just a quick release for the front and back.

Scott(greenbuttskunked) has some nice pics of his trolley setup and could probably help ya out.

Hey armyjim.  Welcome to the site.  I noticed you are up in Alaska.  How's your season starting up?  What sort of yak fishing do you plan on doing?

-Allen

Hi Allen,
No sharks in my (near) future, but I am going to try for some chicken 'buts in Katchemak Bay later this summer, and I am going to try to head off the Silver run in Seward when they get in.
I'm just getting a feel for the new boat, so I've only been doing some lake fishing around the Anchorage Bowl thus far. Lots of fun, but even with my lightest spinning setup, I kind of feel like I'm beating up on a little kid when I pull up one of the little trout they stock around here. I'm going to go after some pike next weekend, hopefully I can get into something with a little fight to it. I'd love to get more salt on the boat, but I am a little limited on how much I can get out because of work.
We do get down to Ketchikan now and again, so maybe I'll try to get time to charter with your buddy down there and get into some good fish!

I sure was glad to find the NWKA site. It's nice to be in the company of other addicts ;D If you guys are interested, I can post my impressions on the Necky Zoar Sport Angler after I try it for awhile, I know they just started with them this year, and I don't know how many other sit-in guys there are, but I'll be glad to let you all know how it's going.

Hey Jim,  I myself just bought a Necky Zoar Angler a couple weeks ago.  I love it, fits me like a glove.  Crazy how there wasn't any instructions about the anchor huh?  Did you figure out your anchor system?  I've yet to try mine out yet but plan on doing it very soon

I think I figured out the trolley. basically I think you tie off the anchor line to the little plastic cleat, and thread it through the snap-link on the trolley, which should form a sort of continuous loop between the pulleys. This sets it up so that as the boat pulls against the anchor line, the snap-link moves to the back of the boat, so you aren't getting pulled from the side. Then you want to pull up anchor, it pulls it back forward where you can reach it.
Clear as mud? I can add pics if it will help.

And yes, I really like the Necky. I took it out in the bay outside of Valdez harbor this week, (130+ fathoms!) and it handled beautifully. The wind kicked up some 2 foot+ swells, and after some initial nervousness (me, not the boat) it was actually fun splashing around in the waves! Not a drop of water in the holds, rudder tracked great. I got skunked on rock fish, but just 'cause I brought too light tackle. Apparently 1 oz. jigs don't drop well in a decent current, who knew? :cussing: Didn't ruin a good time though, just having the boat out in salt water was worth the trip. We ended paddling for four hours one day and six the next.

I'm definitely going to build a removable outrigger system, though. It's hard to back-bounce or cast my heavy spinning rod very well from the cockpit. I want to be able to move around better when I'm fishing. But I really like how it paddles, so I don't regret getting a SinK for a second, although I may add a sit on top to the fleet at some point.
