Netarts crabbing and clamming

Looking for advice on harvesting opportunities in the Oceanside area.  Will be heading down to that area for a few days and wanted to take the Hobie along too.  It has been a while since the outback has been called into action!!  Original thought is to go for the crabs and clams.  What I am wondering is is there anything special that I need to know or areas that are better than others?  Launching at the Netarts boat ramp.  Does Tillamook have a springer run?  Any input would be helpful, otherwise I will go out and explore and let the forum know what I find...

Crabbing in Netarts should be good but I haven't tried it or looked for reports in a few months.  Launch at the boat ramp after you pay your day use fee and you can drop your pots or rings right outside the launch area as long as they aren't in the way of boat traffic.  You can go up into the bay or out of the bay to find more crabbing spots but the currents can get pretty tough to work against once you pass the protective jetties of the launch area as you go toward the mouth.  Clamming is always an option but you need to know where to dig.  Check out the ODFW website for clamming info for Netarts.   Tillamook does have a springer run, but I don't know enough about it yet to help you out on that one.   

Trip Report:  It was a good weekend at the coast, mostly...  The weather on Saturday kept me off of the water.  I found my limits to wind and rain.  So I decided to find a walk in area for the clamming.  Thanks to the ODF&W site, that was the easy part.  Found that there is lots of good advice available from experienced clammers out on the beach.  Just have to have the courage to ask!  Ended up with a limit a gaper clams in a short period of time.  With the wind still blowing I decided to head over to Garibaldi and crab from the pier.  Took one keeper home, crabbing for all was slow.  On Sunday, with wonderful weather, I dropped a couple of crab traps in the morning and picked them up after the tide change.  Had another keeper from this experience.  All of the crabs were full of meat and wonderful table fare! 
Overall it was a good weekend harvesting and eating.  Also earned a few experience points for the next outing in the bay.  I will be heading back...
