Kayak trailer homebuilts

I had actually planned to build a trailer for Camping and Kayaks this year (simple wood one), but I ended up finding a really nice canopy for the truck.  Can't beat $200 for a nice matching aluminum canopy with a super sturdy 1" steel square tube rack on it.  Not enough room for both X-Factor's, but I can snag a Thule J Cradle from Joe's or something, and haul one flat and one on that.

Got it from a local car dealer (Power Autogroup) that had it on a used Dakota of the same year as mine, but the truck was white and the canopy was black.  The figured their truck would sell better without the mismatched canopy.  Not that you can sell a truck these days with gas prices being high.

I'd like to be able to make a decent kayak only trailer now, maybe this winter.  I have no experience in welding though, so I doubt I could do anything like those two.

One of these days I need to stop being such a cheap bastard and come up with a better kayak transport solution.  Right now I have my Caper sticking out the back and my Navigator on top using foam pads and straps.  I'm planning on getting another kayak soon and this just won't do.
