Hi everyone, I'm glad I found this place. I have been searching the web for ways to transport my kayak and ended up here. I think a modified trailer is the way to go for my needs. Anyone have suggestions?

Sold pending pick up on Sunday :) the snow bear trailers  are great and easy to modify. How many kayaks are you looking to transport?

So many ways to approach this - many options depending on what you're towing with, what you're hauling, how much you want to spend, etc...

You might check this thread (on another site) with many, many ways to put together a kayak trailer:  http://www.texaskayakfisherman.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=121567

As much as this comes up, we almost need a Trailer Photos only thread.  No posts except those with pictures of trailers.... If you want a comment, make a new thread.

That's a good idea. I'll try and remember to take a few soon.

I built this trailer pretty much from scratch. It started as a trailer for my tractor to haul brush and stuff. Now its dual purpose- roadworthy and street legal with cross bars for hauling yaks and gear. Its a 2000# trailer all stick welded but cost me very little to build.

My "Yak-A-Haul-It" trailer I built a few years ago and use the heck out of.
Not the basic kayak trailer most folks want, but fits my needs really really well.

Read up on the build of it here.

Here is my trailer.  The original trailer was made for a PWC and I added the frame and upper bunk.  The bunk rails are made from Trex deck boards and will never rot or absorb moisture.  I store the yaks on the trailer and the weight dispersal assures the hulls will not be affected by pressure points.  This setup works very well for transporting.
