I'm doing it wrong.

Went to Tillamook bay today, planned to paddle from Cape Meares to Crab Harbor. The road I used to take onto the spit was washed out by a mudslide, so I had to make a 30 mile detour and find my way on the back roads. I didn't get to put in till way after high water.
After I brought my kayak to the put-in point I went back to get my gear, only to find a herd of elk investigating my kayak. A bit of paddle waving later they decided to bugger off.
I still made an attempt against a stiff northern and whitecaps but had to turn around when I ran out of daylight. Some sea lions made fun of me, I made fun of them while riding the wind and surf back..
On my ride home I caught a yet to be identified owl in my headlights.
I had a great day, but completely forgot to throw a line in the water..

That sounded like it was more of a safari run to me, rather than a fishing trip.

Sometimes those days are more entertaining than what was originally planned.   

Jasper, think of it this way. While you didn't wet a line, you got to interact with more nature in one day than most people see in 2 years.
