Hello All,

I picked up my Hobie 14 yesterday from the shipping company and am beyond excited to hit the water. I have to purchase all the safety gear and gadgets first but I should be good to go after tomorrow. I'll browse the old posts on here and continue trolling YouTube for tips and ideas but please feel free to send me yours as well. For those in the Anchorage area, message me if you need a fishing buddy.

Welcome Derrick -- you must be stoked! cCongrats on the PA. Where are you planning to get it wet (and slimy and bloody) for the first time? Will look forward to meeting you on the water.

I was thinking Whittier. I'm almost done collecting the safety gear and am beyond stoked to get on the water. Where'd you pop your cherry?

Seward on an April day, caught no fish but attracted the attention of a sea lion and some otters. My first fish was a 45# halibut off Deep Creek. No looking back after that.

In Alaska, first stop was Whittier. Not much fishing but good sheltered water and easy launch. But I'd steer you to Seward. Much better "location" in almost every way. Including the time it takes to get fishing unless you time the tunnel perfectly.

Rudy, where do I fish in Seward? I'd go of I knew where to fish.

I think any of us would have a hard time after landing a fish like that from a kayak. I'd be hooked. Hell, I'm hooked and I haven't hit the water yet.

Launches at Seward are either at Lowell Point or at Fourth of July Creek -- depending on wind and destination.  Mostly I prefer Lowell -- public parking, good access, nice fishing especially south of Tonsina Creek, about a mile from the launch.

Rats -- just saw this... Sorry. I'm such a flake; still chewing pain pills after last week's burst appendix. No fishing for me; would be happy to help advise you regards Seward.  I fish there often. Sending PM with # if you don't hear from Rudy and find yourself with questions I can maybe answer. don't hesitate to call. I'm bored (when I'm not knocked out).

Ack. Sry. I just saw this too. Not much fishing. Had my 30yr reunion. I'll reply more tomorrow since it's too late for this weekend. Apologies.

So, life happens and yesterday I was finally able to hit the water. I launched from Whittier and got a good feel for the boat. I came home with 5 rockfish in the cooler. I couldn't get a halibut but I'm sure I've found some or some huge cod. I'll eventually find out. Thanks for all the advice.
