I have been shopping for a pedal kayak and found that I can get the Propel from REI by barge freight free and get the REI 10% rebate when ever they come out ( still have my last one ) and see that ACK ships quickly for not to much and Amazon has every thing. I would prefer to go through a local shop however. Any suggestions?

I ordered my Hobie through ak raft and kayak. It was pricier by a hundred maybe a bit more but Mark said he'd honor the warranty so I did it. Others have done it cheaper through other methods. Hopefully they will chime in.

Just got our new Hobie through ACK. Shipping was pretty reasonable ($150-ish, I think is right), and it was delivered to my door. I've had nothing but good experiences with ACK.

OK, which hobie? PA or the outback with the turbo fin etc. My wife is starting to question why I need another kayak (as I type) when I got the PS Pescador 12. I just paddled 3 miles at the near by lake and did pretty well, maybe I should get a Trident or such and put the $1k savings into navigation stuff. How many miles do I need to be able do to fish out of whiskey Gulch?

Jojo .... Stop talking and listen, or in this case look.
You are in an Alaska thread. I don't think they are going to drive to Oregon.

I got both mine from the kayak shed in Oregon. I think shipping was 300 for the outback and about 400 for the adventure.. I think Austin kayak was pretty muc the same but I've been pretty happy with the kayak shed. I wouldn't get the pa. The outback is about ideal especially for your first. But now I prefer the adventure now that I know what I'm doing

Whiskey gulch is pretty much the same from the shore to two miles out. I wouldn't recommend much past two miles. The currents really blow you around out there and the farther from shore you are the harder it is to tell how fast your really moving and this you end up miles from where you want to take out

I got my Hobie Revo 13 via Ak Raft & Kayak, and would do so again provided I got all #s confirmed in writing ... As the shipping quote was lower than invoiced. I have purchased a Hobie i12 through Kayak Shed and thought they were really great to deal with -- superior customer service. Unless you're a really big person give the Revo some consideration -- a really great little boat that tracks well and cuts through water very efficiently.

If you do prefer to continue to paddle, the Tridents really are great boats and lend themselves easily to customization.
Whatever retailer you decide on, enjoy your new purchase. You've got some great people giving you good advice.

I ordered a Propel 13 from REI, free freight, dividend and warranty. It will be here slower 2 weeks but I stuck at work for the next couple anyway. I know I may be shunned by the Hobie gang but I will have an orange bike on the water. Now electronics, what do you folks suggest or have the best luck with? Thanks for the help so far.

Lol. I doubt you will be shunned by the hobie crowd. The orange? We will see...

Actually it's a great visibility safety color than something like mine.

I bet you love it. Regardless of the pros and cons vs Hobies, you are going to love the hands free aspect.

I now run the Lowrance 4. Works great. Have a few connector issues I dislike but the image is great. I mount in the hull using the foam puck method. But there are other ways. Do a search here on the forum.

I'll be interested in how it handles surf and swells. I will say in subduing big halibut, for the first time I've felt a revers would be handy. I also think revers will come in handy on the rivers.  A lot of energy spent thinking about being pointed in the right direction with a hobie floating rivers. Can only bail out of danger one way without a paddle in hand.

Let's fish!!

Yep the orange. I was just kidding about the shunning. ETA for delivery is 7/23/14 so I have time to tie up terminal gear and give my recumbent exercise bike some use. I hope to have all my gear together so I can get into the salt asap. Man, I haven't been this excited about about a toy and fishing in years.

We hooked up a Lowrance elite 4 as well,  on wife's boat.  I have a hummingbird type... Portable. I can put it on the canoe or kayak,  but I don't recommend it at all. It works fine, but lots of drag and just an extra potential obstacle when dealing with a fish.
