Benson lake is just before multnomah falls heading out I-84 on the left. Lost lake sounds awesome. Would enjoy going there soon.

Are the Mt lakes easy access right now? If so i might just head up to trillium lake on Saturday also..:)

Ah, I know exactly where you're talking about, and that's not far from me. Now I just have to see if I can shake myself out of bed that early...

Haven't heard anything on Trillium Lake, but just called the cabins there, and the road is open.

If it's open, Lost Lake will be packed. Due to the big winter snowfall, it is a really late opening for them.

talked to the Lost Lake store today. The road is open, and the store and campground are open. Some of the campsites are still snowed in, but they have 75 cleared and open. Also snow on some of the hiking trails. Sounds like it's been slow up there so far, since most think it's still closed (I didn't mention they need to update their website). Anyway, we're planning on heading there for the day on Sunday.

Booker, I'm going to try & fish Rock Creek again Saturday morning. That's about an hour from Portland, depending on where you are (I can hit the airport in 45 minutes). Let me know if that interests you, and I'll try to nail down a time. It may depend on how big tomorrow night goes.

Anyone have tips on bait & tackle for Lost Lake trout?

Kinda stuck in on something closer. argh.....

Let me see what i can do about flipping things around. My friend can only go on Saturday. So that means semi close to home. However my wife was talking about going to the mountains or the gorge on Sunday. So depending on were she wants to go ..... could see a possibility of lost lake instead of Benson.....

Let me see what i can work out.......

Rock creek.... I'm assuming this would be a creek? I know nothing about it? Please tell me more..

Hey Brian,

I am by no means a trout expert, but for stocked rainbows, I like trolling wedding rings with a bit of worm.  I sometimes find the line that the wedding rings come with to be a bit thick and I like to replace it with either 4-6 lbs test or even better some flourocarbon for less visibility.

If you're looking to catch the larger brooder trout, I'd troll small rapalas or other similar plugs.

With either trolling rig, it's a good idea to get the lure fairly far out behind you, I'd say ~100 ft if boat traffic allows.   I don't imagine these fish will be very deep yet so you can probably get away with out adding any weight.  If you do want to get down a bit farther a bit of split shot about 4 ft about the lure will help.

Here's an article a friend of mine down in California wrote..
http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?page=32
and although it wasn't written with Oregon mountain lakes in mind, it might be useful.  Ignore the bit about two rod stamps and other California specific regs.

Ok… Went to Benson lake on Saturday. I never new that lake was 9ft at the deepest point. Not to mention it seems a lot smaller than as I remember it 20 years ago…. Got out there about 7am……

Had breakfast at a truck stop “longhorns” or “greenhorns” by the outlet malls on the way out…. Horrible…avoid at all cost! Honestly, the worst breakfast I had ever had…..

My fishing buddy hooked up on a 5 inch trout and 3 inch largemouth. I on the other hand caught nothing….. zero…. zip…..

Bummer……. Oh well got a great upper body work out and felt good doing it!
