OK so let me start by saying that I know how bad this sounds, but I went out through the surf today for my first ever kayak fishing attempt.  Surf was tiny, but the whale that came up near me 5 mins after I went out was not.  That was a little nerve wracking!  Fished all day pulling a herring and ended up with a nice chinook!

Now the rest of the story is that although I'm new to kayaks, I've spent lots of time in everything else that floats and have been fishing hard for 35 plus years.  I did spend the other afternoon getting the feel of the Outback which I'm mostly very pleased with.

My first kayak fish was from a surf launch also, great job.

No, no no!  You're doing it all wrong!! Your first kayak fish is supposed to be eight inches long and either a bass or stocked trout.

Nice fish.

Nice fish.

But that would mean my kayak has been used in fresh water...   :o  My #1 was eight inches long, but he was an itty bitty Starry flounder.   :D

Thanks for the confession Jim,  an 8 inch flounder counts as an acceptable first kayak fish.   Feel free to catch as many salmon as you want now.
