Bowman/Rosario Beach Report

I spent about 5 hours fishing the area around Northwest Island near Bowman Bay on Fidalgo Island. I beach launched from Rosario Beach (Discovery Pass required). The beach launch here is really difficult due to the surf.



I worked the reef and kelp beds northwest of Northwest Island and rocky areas north. Due to the large exchanges right now I didn't need to poke my nose out too far to get into a 2+ mph drift so I mostly stayed in close. For the first couple hours I used a 4" red crab 2 oz jig and did not catch much other than a large and cool looking Buffalo Sculpin.



I tried switching up to small clam necks in hopes of finding a perch but did not luck upon any. I went out deeper and dropped some bait on the bottom in hopes of finding a ratfish or something new for my big fishing year but turned up only a dozen or so Spiny Dogfish.

The bay was full of anchovies and I saw a few kings on the ff working over bait balls. I also saw several gill netters working the area. Three boats did 2 net sets and I only saw one boat score any salmon. A very pretty but less than fishy spot. Still thankful for the time on the water though.
