Looking to see if anybody uses this kit...especially the Washington peeps for offshore/Westport fishing.  http://www.hobiecat.com/kayaks/accessories/sidekick-ama-kit/

Heck, I haven't even purchased my yak yet, but thinking about safety especially since I am having troubles finding dry gear to fit my very large frame.  (That's really code for big belly :))

I saw a youtube from a guy that was offshore and they looked like they would definitely help stability and probably make the PA almost un-tippable.

Comments, suggestions, friendly banter about water wings :)

I've only seen Rory using these, hopefully he chimes in. I've been thinking of these recently just for stand up stability and casting.

Just my 2 cents, but seems like overkill for a PA. That boat already offers all the stability one could ever want.

+1 on that.  I've got a PA and I'm 250 lbs,  I've fished and drifted (by the wind) while standing and never thought I was going to tip.  It was in a calm lake, but I've been happy without any additional support.  If you don't have good balance or have a hard time standin up or sitting you might look at the new h bar.

There's a YouTube video of a guy catching a shark in a PA while standing.
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

Being a fat guy, I was thinking about this add on, even though it might be overkill for the PA, mainly for additional safety.  Having the outrigger would give me something additional to help get my legs up in a deep water recovery.

If I get this, I will see what recovery techniques open up for me and share with the group.

If you find you have trouble getting back in your yak, fashion yourself some stirrups.

OlySpec,  Check out Rory's Post might give you a little more info on the stability factor.

Has anyone tried installing the Hobie Sidekick AMA Outrigger Kit (https://www.austinkayak.com/products/621/Hobie-Sidekick-Ama-Outrigger-Kit.html) on a Pro Angler 12 or 14?  I realize it's a very stable platform and many feel it isn't necessary.

I understand that it might be overkill, but I'm more looking to find out if it's possible to install them.  If not the Hobie Sidekick AMA, perhaps other outriggers that might work (like the Yak-Gear Outriggers - https://www.austinkayak.com/products/8655/Yak-Gear-Outriggers.html)?

I think you'll be hard pressed to find someone who's put them on any PA, but it is possible to do. I highly recommend you spend some time on your boat before buying them though. That way you can make an educated decision as to whether or not you actually need them. I think you'll find that money better spent on something else.

I've installed them on my revo and as far as I can tell it would take a good deal of modification to install them on a PA12.  The middle pipe section that the outside pieces connect to is too short to be connected across the gunnels of a PA. You could fab your own custom middle section of pipe or get creative on where you mount it. I'll take a look at my PA when I get home and if I see an easy solution I'll post it. The kit wasn't designed for the PA models though.

I put them on my outback for my then 8 yr old son. Too much. Used them once and won't again until I figure out my sail kit. Just too much stuff in the water.

I have them on my Revolution 11 and use them for both sailing and fishing, I feel they offer a lot more stability and peace of mind, was out the other day off Point Roberts trolling in fairly rough conditions and felt ok with amas, having said that when I came to the beach I got hit with a wave, and my stbd ama dug in and the main tube was busted right where the adjustment holes are, so off to find some aluminum tubing of the same specs.
