Went out on the lake tonight to see if could catch the fish turning on when the lights went out tonight. Left the house at 7PM w/ the temps at 80. Hit the water and headed to the pads for some topwater action.

Chucked all kinds of surface stuff for not too much action. Just a few busts. Skipped around some more pads on the way to a spot that usually produces. Nothing yet 'til I nailed a few nice perch on a smaller rig.

Hung around looking for LMB's when I got into some hot squawfish action.... WTF!?? Nailed three of 'em. Even got a bigger one at 17".

Had fun watching the bald eagles pick off fish as I chucked for more LMB's but ended up w/ lot's of perch. Made one more stop at the pads before heading in but no action. Trolled back to the launch and nailed two more squaws.. lots in this lake... It was a beauty of a night and fished all the way to dark. Summer is goood.

Damn it... I almost headed down to Sammy today.  Instead I hit up my usual place, Beaver Lake.  What end were you fishing from?  I really want to fish the Marymoor end by the pilings, but I haven't found a launch on that end yet.

I had no idea that lake had squaw fish.  Heck, I've never even seen one before.

Nice "bare footin" action! I'm going to head inland to a lake this week, most likely in Mason County, as I need to go by Verle's in Shelton. Not sure which lake yet, but after reading Chester Allen's column in the Olympian last Friday, I might try Summit Lake for the first time. Smallmouth Bass and Perch to be had.  Depends on how early I get going... must get in some good fishing time before the water skiers start.

Squawfish are in a lot of lakes around here, being natives. I have heard that Lake Ozette has lots of big ones, too. The Chehalis River system is full of 'em, and I have caught them in the Wynoochee  and Satsop Rivers.

There's a park on the north end by Marymoor that I launch from all the time. Idylwood Park. Bust out the yak cart and roll on down the way! Chicks dig it! ;)

Ditto on Idylwood.  Been there once before to fish the north part.  As I recall it too was chocked full of squawfish.

have been looking at a more southern access for the lake, b/c most of what i've been finding for intel says the best bassin is down at that end on the gravel bars and stumps, and found timberlake park.. it's sandwhiched betweeen houses, and has a beach that looks like an easy access yak launch, but it's still not to clear in the pics if there is a dirt road or just a large gravel path there, which means we might end up carrying or carting the boats

tip; use the birds eye view and rotate it 180

anyway;

Have seen that as well. It looks like a good place to launch close to some good bassin' grounds but also looks like a long walk w/ gear. If I had a choice to walk or paddle I think I'd rather paddle. It's not that far of a paddle anyway and a good workout. If you take the park WR let us know how it goes.
