Next weekend is my birthday and I was hoping to spend three days fishing Brookings for unusual bottomfish. I mostly anticipated spending time around Chetco Point and maybe banging the sand near the mouth of the Chetco for California Halibut. The swell looks swell at > 2' at 15-20 sec out of the SW but the wind looks downright nasty with 15-30 out of the North.

Having never fished this area is there somewhere I can tuck in out of the wind or with the conflicting wind and swell am I asking for misery?

You should just come troll for Fall Chinook with me, if the wind is howling down there.

when the wind picks up...just duck behind the point.
even with that wind, you can fish a few coves from the mouth of the river to Chetco point for bottom fish.
If it is not too bad, drifting south out of the river just down to Akin point (1/2 mile or so) covers a good amount of sandy area, this is where most Calibuts are taken out of Pelican Bay. If you want to go farther south....I do have private access to a couple of properties, we can get you a close launch to your target area.
I hope by next weekend you mean Sept. 6&7!
This weekend is the annual slamin salmon derby here and too many powerboats for my liking.
I think I will take the guns out for a target shoot this weekend instead of fighting those boats.
