There's still some out there.  Some are even a little too big for the cooler.
At first tug I thought it might be a rockfish or some other smaller fish, then it seemed to get heavier the closer I got it to the kayak.  Then near the surface this strong chinook turned on the turbo chargers and headed for the bottom.  It ran back down several more times before tiring out.  It was a lot of fun, and I can't wait to get out again.  I did continue to try for a coho but none were to be found.

Damn, after years of trying to catch a salmon, all it took was getting a Hobie to turn you into a salmon slayer.

Yeah Nate, I must admit the new boat is even better than I expected.  Being able to troll with the rod in your hands takes it all to a new level.  And I learned that I can outrun the waves on my way into the beach.  Just need to time it right and jump out before I break anything.

Oh, and here's the best part.  After fishing, my family and two other families all met at a beach house we are renting for the weekend.  As I pull the cooler with the salmon and seven large rockfish out of the back of my truck someone asks "is there a fish market nearby?"  To which I respond, "yup right here."  Lot's of oohs and aahs.  It's sure fun being the hero of the day, and loving all the "hard work." :-)
