I spent a couple of hours on Callaghan Lake last Sunday with my six year old. It was my first time to the lake and I'll definitely go back. It's about 8.5km up an old logging road that's narrow but in ok shape. 4wd wasn't needed but a little clearance in spots was.
The fishing was good. Lots of small acrobatic Rainbows. We got our first fish just after launching and it was steady from there.
We were spinning and did some trolling moving between spots. Would have been good fly fishing but a challenge for a six year old in a yak. :)
The most consistent spinner was an orange blade/yellow body Panther Martin. We didn't get anything trolling but I'd like to go back and work it a little more.
The lake was crystal clear and I'm guessing doesn't support large fish. Though clearly supports a large population which was good to see. Apparently it was last stocked in 2003.
