Sounds like you guys had fun.  Would've joined, but my goat hunt took a little longer than expected.  That's ok.....I just happened to kill a B&C mountain goat!!!  Dunno which is cooler, 100 lb kayak halibut or a B&C goat on a backpack solo trip???

Solo B&C goat sounds pretty impressive!  I'll go with the solo goat.

Wish you could have made it.  It was a blast with GREAT company!!!!

I think I will wait for the better story tellers to report.  But in the mean time, here's a longer clip of 5 fish ( I think) we caught.  Just AWESOME!!!

As great as the trip was, I think the B&C Goat while backpacking solo wins for cool factor.  ;D

We all know I got lucky.

You're too humble Rudy.

It's no coincidence that Rudy found "the hole" that produced his hundy in addition to a 50 for me and a 60 for mark, as well as a couple 40's and a smattering of smaller chickens.  And on a day the rest of us blanked in tough fishing conditions, Rudy stuck 2.  Rudy does the research, puts in the time, has a plan, and executes.  Now, if he can just figure out the circle hooks ... LOL!

Rudy is an ANIMAL!  I can't tell you how many times the words "That Fxxxing Rudy!" were heard on VHF Channel 69 around Kodiak last week.   ;D  The guy could find em in the most unlikely (to me) places.

I appreciate the props.  It still was luck in a lot of ways.  I learned a LOT from all of you guys.  But the luckiest thing was you guys invited me along and convinced me to go!  I can't say enough how well this trip went from a people chemistry point of view.  Everything worked out great.  Usually ultra passionate folks about any thing can be a tad odd or touchy at the very least.

Fishing with you all was like I had fished with you for decades even though I had just met all of you for the first time on this trip!!!

Thanks again!  I owe a lot to all of you!!!!

I'm not new to fishing but this is the first season in a kayak and I learned so much from Rudy's Blog and his posting that I got a head start on being successful out in the salt. Thanks Rudy.

Glad you benefited from some of the info!  Your fish is DANG impressive given it came off of Whiskey Gulch!  What's your next goal?!?!? Feeder kings off Homer starting later this month!!!!

So I finally got everything packaged.  45 packs at a 1.5 lbs per pack average was 67.5 pounds.  Add 15 pounds of fillets I had already done at home totals 82.5 pounds of halibut fillets.  Store retails halibut at $21 per pound.  So retail value of my haul back from kodiak was..... $1,732.50.  Unbelievable.  Now I have too much halibut.  Oh well, I could have to eat a lot more of worse things!!!!

Nice...I have some freezer space for halibut only, if you need to get rid of them.  I will try to make it next year (kings or halibuts) and thanks again for awesome report.

Ps. Can you share what rig setup you used to catch hundy?  It looks different from your usual setup.

I figured we had 75 to 80 pounds processed, my wife loves halibut, I told her that we had over $1600. in the freezer,  She has Oked future trips. We have eaten it 2 Sundays in a row yum. I am going somewhere on the 6-8 but haven't made up my mind if it will be Seward or Homerish yet. A big feeder King would be nice but a quicker Seward mixed bag is also looks good. I'll let the weather/tides dictate.

Rod,

I planned on going out this weekend also. I'm thinking Homer but am open to Seward now that I found a halibut spot (only bites and saw one caught by boat). Let me know if you decide to go.

Bonus footage...lol.  Our final day.  My one silver of the trip....  Buskin River.  Allen managed a monster coho and lost even a bigger one.

Just curious why we haven't gotten Allen and Mark's expanded version and take on your trip ??? ::)

You are both some of our collectively best writers......... so let's hear ya'lls take on the trip.

Some of those early kings in another post sure look tempting..... just sayin'
