Hello, I recently moved to Portland from Boston.  I’ve done most of my kayak fishing for warm freshwater species but do have some experience going after striped bass and flounder in the salt. I fish from a pretty simple Perception Sport 12.0 Angler with a few add-ons (depth finder etc) and I’m looking forward to using this site as a resource and meeting some like-minded fishermen in the PDX area.

Welcome to NWKA and Portland.

If you're looking for some easy local kayak fishing to get you started here are some ideas.

North Fork Reservoir trout - 45 min drive from Portland and constantly stocked all summer.  Methods: troll lures or drift with power bait.

Willamette River smallmouth bass - 0 min from Portland and full of bass.  Methods: troll deep diving crankbaits or dropshot/jigging

Willamette River sturgeon - 0 min from Portland, catch and release only.  Methods: anchor up and drop bait to bottom and hang on.  See various posts here about sturgeon fishing.

Henry Hagg Lake - 50 min from Portland.   trout, largemouth, smallmouth, yellow perch.  Various methods.

Bsteves has sound advice for quick general areas. Try them, and see what types of fishing you like.
I live in the immediate pdx area. I fish the Columbia mostly. Salmon, steelhead, and sturgeon. I will be fishing hard every weekend just a short drive east of Portland starting August 1st. For now I'm now just goofing around on the sandy river and surrounding areas. PM if you would like to join.

Sorry it's been so long for a reply.  My wife just had our second kid and I'm only now getting some free time.  I'll PM you to see if you are still up for meeting up.
