I've never caught a salmon.  I have Monday off.  Any thoughts on where I should go?  I don't have an anchor setup beyond a 1.5 pounder and line I carry for emergencies.  I'd prefer to troll.  I have a Hobie PA12.

I'd love any advice or tips.

I have no experience in the Bonneville area, but check this out for a suggestion...

Thanks Sam!  That's perfect.  I can't believe I missed that post in my search of the archives.

You bet!  I just happened to remember bookmarking it last year - hoping to hit that area in the coming weeks...

I would stay closer to home and work areas around PDX. Remember even with an OR license you can still launch off a WA beach which will give you more options.

1.) Option 1: Beach launch from Austin Pt near Woodland at sunrise, paddle 1/2 mile upstream above Warrior Rock lighthouse, fish the incoming tide until it turns at 9:15 AM, troll upstream zig-zagging on the Bachelor Island side in 20-40' of water you'll have the tide pushing you upstream, once it turns troll back with the outgoing current. It should give you a good 5-6 hours of fishing. Use a flasher with cutplug herring or a spinner with coon shrimp wrapped onto it and keep your line at a 45 angle, an 8 oz cannonball on a 16" dropper will do. Watch the powerboats if they are hooking up then that is the lane the salmon are travelling so just pull into that lane and fish it.

2.) Option 2: Troll with the same gear between I-5 and the airport. Plenty of beach and ramp access on both sides of the river. The concept would be the same. Troll upstream with the tide until it turns and come back with the current. Incoming tide is from 6:45 AM to 11:20 AM. I've never fall kayak fished this area for salmon but I will be out there tomorrow and can report back if you like.
