Craig, I actually just trawl for salmon with the net.  And yes, it doubles as a hammock.  Where were you two months ago when we had this conversation about my big net?

I use a Scotty Powerlock rod holder on a Gear head mount and both a regular and mini rod holder extender.  I also use a few Scotty slip discs for fine tuning.

I think I need a Gear head mount and some slip discs. That looks like an improvement on what I use which is just a rod holder and and extension. That looks more roomy.

The slip disks are awesome.  They make the Scotty system way better than before.  Best $4.99 I have spent in a long time.  One problem I have found with the gear head mount (track adapter 438) is that when using a diver with my salmon rod, the gear head mount loosens up.  But, I fish off the left side so this will not apply to those fishing off the right.  They need to make a reverse threaded one for me.  Trolling with lead is no problem.

For a description of how to make fixed-angle rod holder mounts which go in gear tracks and which don't slip like Scotty Gearhead mounts, see http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=13167.0 .

RE: Slip Discs when used on the regular Scotty Rod Holder, the Thumb screw only catches few threads due to the Slip Discs being so thick. One solution is to use the thumb screw from the Scotty Rocket Launcher which is longer. Seems Scotty sells the replacement regular thumb screw, however I cannot find the longer thumb screw. Anyone know where?

I have done something similar except bought the bolts and nobs from Hook1. They were cheaper than driving to Home Depot to get some.  I was just pointing out the only drawback I have found yet with the Gear Track.   One thing that makes them better than a standard mount is that when you yank your rod out of your quick release rod holder, the rod holder stays there unlike when you yank your rod out of the quick release rod holder after you inadvertently place the rod holder in the one position on a Scotty mount where it comes free.  If you do that, you get to watch the rod holder fly up into the air then sink to the bottom of the Willamette.  DAMHIK.
