First time kayak fishing for salmon today on the Salmon river, Oregon. Fished for 2 1/2 hours, caught 9 salmon. It was a good first day of salmon fishing. Heading back tomorrow. I was the only kayak on the water this morning, hope to see some other kayakers out there. The fishing is great. It's an easy river to kayak fish in.

Nice report and welcome. I have been up there to trout fish a few times. In your kayak, are you able to get away from the bank combat scene that I have heard about over there? What were the other seven...Coho? How was the boat traffic?

I caught all the fish from within the kayak. Nobody bank fishing. I was quite a ways below 101bridge. All but 2 of them were Kings. I hooked 10 or 12 trout too. I was the only kayaker and there were only 4 drift boats nearby. I launched at boat ramp below the 101 bridge. It was kind of fun. I was the only one catching fish, the boaters weren't catching any.

Dang!!I'm going ASAP.  My buddy used to go down there in a canoe and catch salmon all the way down to the beach. I think it's time to make that trip!

Hopefully tomorrows trip will be just as productive. Not new to kayak fishing, been fishing the lakes this past summer, first time salmon fishing though. Hoping that with the rain coming in I'll be the only one on the water. I'll keep you posted.

This sounds very cool, I want to see more reports and yaks catching salmon!
Those are pigs.  How did you entice those fish?

I started out drifting eggs and a bobber and switched to a little cleo lure and caught all of the fish on that. Heading back right now, hopefully I'll have more pictures to share when I get home.

Good luck. Thanks for the inspiration and information. I may go Friday if things go my way. That's the closest coastal river for me. Anyone else over there say hi, I look just like my picture.

I hooked a couple of trout trolling back to the ramp but sent them back to grow some more.  Nice to see you guys out there, I'll probably be back late next week to try again.

We did meet Jim again this morning. My wife, bb2fish, and I arriving as Jim was heading home with another limit of Chinook. He's the man! (Stopping at Otis Cafe for a mountain of fried breakfast didn't help with our early start.) My wife got her first unassisted Chinook from a kayak today. Hooray!
