Cool.  Hey Allen, could you do end of August?  First week in September is archery elk.  I like to go out and pretend I have a chance at sticking one.

I can probably do a trip at any time around that general time.  Keep in mind that the peak of the silver run in the rivers occurs in the 2nd and 3rd weeks of September.  There are some available at the end of August, at least enough to keep things interesting, but it's not off the hook fishing, at least not by Alaska standards.  For those of us tripping a longer distance to go there, the variety that this offers is really quite nice.  On the last trip, we'd hit the salt during the day, and end the day on the rivers fishing silvers until the sun went down.  It made for LONG days, although fun and jam packed.

I'll be welcoming a baby girl into the world in May so that month is out for me. However, my wife knows that Kodiak kayaking is a bucket list item so Apr or the Aug-Sep trip might actually happen. I'd like the chance to target multiple species though. I'm one of those guys that likes to return to shore with as much meat as possible from every species I can  ;D.  If I make the trip I'll most likely chip in for someone to transport my yak versus me catching the ferry. It'll all depend on the baby and wife.

I was down in Kodiak last month and saw a stream that was littered with huge chum carcasses. I can't speak for anyone else but chum are my favorite salmon to catch. I find that they are raw power and they love busting my knuckles on my 8 wt.

Rudy, what kind of down rigger do you use?

I'm planning a summer long trip to AK and would really like to be part of this trip if I can do it. I will be in an RV with my truck and two kayaks, Plan to maybe sell the kayaks before coming back so I don't have to carry them both ways. Keep me in mind as a participant. Art

I have an old Penn Downrigger.  Works ok to about 100ft.  Then its a pain.

I agree chums are seriously underrated.  I will say the Spring trip is for big kings.  A fall trip will yield a lot more variety I think.  I'm a meat fisherman too so no issues there.  At over 20 bucks a pound for troll salmon and halibut, even a 10 pounder is a 100 dollar bill!

Upnorthtex, keep us in mind.  What's your routing?
