Hello All,

Thought I would introduce myself.  Moved here from So Cal last year, took some adjusting to the weather but I love it.  Ive tried and tried to catch fish since getting here, but I just cant seem to get it right.  Spent lots of money on new gear, tried to follow tips from other sites.    Spent most of my fishin time in the ocean out of San Diego down into the islands, mostly top water stuff.  Catalina when the water temp was right, on the cattle boats.

I decided to give yakkin a try since Im still a chicken to take my boat out on the river.  Anyway went into Sports Authority to get softball stuff and saw a fishing yak.  HMMMMMM so I bought it.  Its just a low end start yak, but so far lucky for me.  Its a Pelican Castaway 116 DLX.  It has 2 rod holders behind seat, rear hatch, front hatch, and a swivel rod holder middle of front legs.  I want to put a fish finder on it and a few other things.  I'm sure I will want to upgrade by next year, but this should be fun for this summer and give me chance to really get hooked. I took it out of Scappoose Bay yesterday and drug around a crawler and caught a few pan size cats ( All CPR'd)

I look forward to chatting with you all.

Welcome girlzluvfishin,

Looks like you took our advice and found your way here from iFish.  Keep an eye on the Oregon regional board for chances to meet up with members and go fishing.  I too have been slow to start really catching fish here in Oregon since moving up last fall.  I'm basically writing this year off as a break in period.  From what I've seen fishing can be pretty good if you're in the right place at the right time.

Cheers,
Brian

desparaging remarks: I'm so done with that.  Well, unless it involves you Spot, at least while you're ahead of me on AOTY.

Other than that, yeah I guess I'm the resident nerd.

Just for clarification, I've got nothin but love for these guys!  They've really carried me up the kayak fishing learning curve and they're great guys to fish with.

That is a salmon grouper and a red rock fish I caught at Catalina last year, I think I had way too much sun that day!

Salmon grouper??  I had to look that one up. Turns out I've always heard them called bocaccio.   Seems salmon grouper must be a SoCal regional name.  I wonder what Oregon regional names I need to learn now.  Of course, as Spot has pointed out, I'd prefer everyone use scientific names, but that isn't going to happen. Oh, FYI Spot...Sebastes paucispinis
