Ventured to Long Beach and Cape Disappointment to dig for razor clams and attempt a surf launch at Waikiki beach for some crabs and rockfish. Arrived Friday morning and the surf was uncomfortably high and the wind was blowing pretty good. Headed to the jetty on foot to try my luck to no avail. Spent the rest of the day exploring the park and having some delicious wood fired pizza. Thank you by the way to Rory and other contributors sharing there experience fishing Cape Disappointment. Inspired me to go and give it a try. And thank you to all the people who have chimed in on launching in the surf giving us newbies on the salt good tips and advice.

There was a small window to launch Saturday morning and I went for it. The waves kept coming and getting bigger but I managed to break through unscathed. It didn't take long for the massive swells and the wind to pick up and I was more concerned about safety and could not focus on the fishing. I decided to head back but was stuck for several hours waiting for a good opening for re-entry. I put the helmet on just in case. I got lucky and made it back safely to shore.

This place kicked my butt. Definitely learned a lot from this outing.

Great photos - thank you for sharing. Sometimes it's nice to hear the stories where no fish are caught - makes me feel normal. Getting out and exploring is half the fun. Hopefully the next one involves a full stringer! :)

  Great story Hermes,
I agree with the Capt.---- it ain't always about the fish catching.
Hope the clamming was better than the fishing.
 Oh. and great pics too.

we will get you out on the Colombia this year and get some salmon.
Maybe hit North River and Smith Creek too.

 Thanks for sharing your time.

She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Join us at the May Day event if you don't catch a rock fish it will be because your line wasn't in the water, I have never been skunked on the south wall.

Thanks Capt and Mark! I am looking forward to salmon fishing in the Columbia and meeting up again :]

Mojo, I have thought about the event and would love to join you all but I have something planned with the special lady on the 2nd. If anything changes, I will be making the drive for the event. Sounds like a great event :]

Great write up and pics!! This is one of my favorite places to fish because it's just a neat place with awesome pizza!! Black rockfish can be hot there, but seldom get lings and cabs. Thanks for sharing!!

Great pics as always Hermes!

Let me know when you want to head out next, I'd love to join you! I didn't make it to Drano this weekend but maybe a weekday next week.
