Anybody ever tried using the Sony action cams?  They look pretty slick, video quality appears to be good, and they're rated for deeper depths of waterproofing.

Pondering about getting one for some interesting underwater shots
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

I picked up the SONY hdr-as100v a couple months ago for $150.

Here's my forum post about buying it.

I really like it and you can still get a pretty decent price on Amazon $199

Here's a video clip from about a week ago of my son catching his first sturgeon.  The camera was in the waterproof case and the audio is still really good.    The video was shot in 1080p60 so you might want watch it on YouTube (rather than embedded here) and adjust your YouTube settings to 1080p60 to get the best quality.

I'm impressed with those little cameras. I bought a Contour Roam 3 for the same price and I have yet to use it.

Funny that I chose to pick up a couple of the early models because of their housings deep water rating yet they have hardly even gotten wet.   With a Halibut trip coming up soon.  planning on sending one down to get a "baits eye view" of what is going on down there.   I have no ideal what kind of light there is to work  with in our waters when nearing 200'   ???    Also want to set one up in a shrimp pot to see what happened during the soak.

Even on the early models the image stabilization helps a good bit and I understand the newer models have an even improved version.

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

The saying in my scuba classes was "Any dive in Puget Sound below 50' might as well be a night dive".  You want something more than just ambient light, especially if you go to 200' (keeping in mind also that the camera housings are frequently only certified to 130' recreational depth...)

I have several of the Sony SPK-AS1 housings which are rated to 66 meters. Why SONY couldn't engineer them to make it an even 200'  I don't know  ???   I read a couple of posts on a Sony users forum where people claim to have had them down to 300 without fail but then again it is the internet.

Maybe a glow stick or two might provide enough light ?  I have only been out shrimping once and we were stumped why so few came up in the trap.  Would be great to see exactly what happened.
