Hello. My name is Chad and I am addicted to Kayak Fishing. Though I am 140 miles south of the Great Northwest, I find myself drawn to the waters of Southern Idaho often. I paddle an OK Trident 13 and BLOG about my adventures at https://kayakfishingutah.wordpress.com/. I also am the group admin at https://www.facebook.com/groups/kayakfishingutah/. Kayak Fishing Utah is my attempt to unite the many kayak anglers in Utah under one banner. So, I hope to learn more here and hopefully convince some of you that Utah has more than Mormons, sage brush and red rocks. Cheers!

Welcome!!!! My usual round trip is 450 miles pretty much every weekend. The kayak makes it much more feasible. I'll have to check out your blogs.

Welcome to NWKA, I am a Utah to Washington transplant; I agree that Utah is a lot more than what people think. I grew up kayaking the reservoirs and lakes of Utah. Not sure where you are located, but I'm sure that there is water near you no matter where you are in Utah. I will be moving back to Utah in a couple years, but visit frequently so I'm sure we could share some info.

There are 100's of lakes and reservoirs, not to mention the Weber and Provo Rivers within 1-2 hrs from Salt Lake. I would like to fish the salt one day........

Welcome!

Have you tried going after any of the Arctic Char or Greyling found in the Uintas?
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

I have not. Most Greyling lakes are at high elevation and need to be hiked in. They are on my bucket list, but probably not from the kayak. Greyling can be found in the following lakes:

High Uintas

Weber River Drainage:
Fish Reservoir
Round Lake
Sand Reservoir
Smith & Morehouse Reservoir

Provo River Drainage
Trial Lake (Provo River Drainage)
Wall Lake (Provo River Drainage)
Blue Lake
Marjorie Lake
Weir Lake

Bear River Drainage
Whiskey Island Lake

Duchesne River Drainage
Carolyn Lake

Other
Allen Lake
Silver Lake (Utah County)

I have done many multi-day whitewater kayak trips on the Jarbidge and Bruneau Rivers, and three long trips on the East and South Forks of the Owyhee, which are awesome southern Idaho floats, but I never did any fishing on those trips.  I was too busy making the miles and running the rapids.

Ya, I can imagine it'd be tough from the kayak. My buddy and I tried targeting them our last year of college, but never got to cross greyling off the list.
We found some gorgeous and secluded country though.

There are some very pretty grayling in the Uintas; Fish lake is probably one of the most popular... There are a couple other hidden gems that with a little homework and footwork you could find. The best part of the Uintas is you could hike in to a lake, camp for days, and not see a single soul.

To share and join with other kayak fisherman and have fun. Maybe we will have a chance to meet up and fish.
