OK think I've found a good addition to my kyak attire especially for out in the sound... Its a TROPOS TecTour Anorak by kokatat and I think its a dry top.  I can't really pull the trigger on a whole dry suit and I've read that waders and dry top is a decent alternate option... So just lookin for input and possibly experience with this product.  Looking into this after my last experience on the sound monday had a "rouge" wave wipe over my right side and ha it been alittle bigger would have filled the top of my waders so needless to say after that I figured it was time to get out of the pool and rethink my strategy a bit.  Gotta be safe ya know, can't "leave" now gotta stick around and watch my boys grow up ;)

Dry top and waders work just make sure you are wearing a snug wading belt too.

If you can't afford a dry suit, why not a wetsuit? That way you're actually dressed for immersion and not just hoping for the best.

That's a really good combo.  Since the TROPOS TecTour Anorak has the waist cinch, you don't actually need the wading belt.

I'm a dry top/wader guy myself, so I'm good with the concept, but the half zip on the anorak kinda puts it out of the dry top category. The waist seal and wrist gaskets are great, but unless that zip is a waterproof zip, you're gonna take water over the top of your waders pretty quickly, since the zip will be in the water unless you float really high in your PFD.

The wader dry top combo works only because it takes several minutes for water to work itself up past the waist seal and over the top of the waders, and the leakage past the seal is (hopefully) minimal. Water is gonna get past that zipper a lot quicker, and you're gonna have several inches of zipper in the water. The anorak is a lot better than a paddling jacket, but not as good as a true dry top.
