I organized a few Fish and Sail events in NorCal and they are fun. Any interest from the PDX area Islanders? I would be happy to organize if people could suggest a location and date as I know nothing about the area. LOL

I don't know of too many people on this forum in PDX that use tandem or adventure Islands. I am currently putting together a sailing rig, but like all boats/yaks I build, it has become a multi-year project.

I just picked up Zeehawks barely used AI last week and plan to give it my first sail this afternoon out at Hagg Lake. Hoping for some reasonable breeze gas.

So, gimme a few runs to get the hang of it and I'd be interested in some sailing/fishing with some other locals.

Awesome. Congrats on the AI. It's great for big game fishing. I wrote an article on how to sail the AI http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=39153.0

Yup and I read it the other day trying to get the sailing "lingo" down.

Today was my first time ever sailing AN?YTHING, and I have to tell you it was way more fun than any mature adult male should ever experience on water.   The winds were pretty light at first and I could maintain 2-3mph (by GPS) in several directions across the lake.  At one point my son docked my Revo along side the port side Ama, stowed his rudder, locked the Mirage drive against the hull and handed me the bow line.  Then he climbed onto the tramp and had a seat.  I tied off the Revo the port side Aka and we just towed it behind us.  Even with the light wind, we could maintain 2-3mph no problem.

Later in the afternoon the winds gusted somewhere around 13mpg (per the forecast) and during those bursts, this thing shot right up to 5-7mph depending on which way I was going.

It's a wet ride for sure!  So, I plan to build a spray skirt to knock the splash back under the Aka's.  I did discover that if I stuffed the dagger board foam thingy into the handle of the lower side of the kayak, water didn't get propelled into the seat.

I can totally see this thing being a fishing machine in the ocean, although surf launch/landings don't look like a very good idea.  Depoe Bay and Sunset might be the best places to tackle that from.

I'd be down for a fish/sail gig.  Love my little sail on the revolution 13.  Got up to a good clip the other day in some steady wind.  It's fun to lean over the side a bit.

What type of sail did you set up, Kyle? Pics?

At Next Adventure they have a couple of sail kits in the used gear area if anyone is interested in tinkering with wind power. I can't remember the brand, but they were marked at $50.

It's the Hobie kit.  Works great!
