Years ago at the age of 10, I could not go on the yearly deer hunt. Usually it was the week prior to Thanksgiving. Any other time it was not an issue as my Dad would leave noon on Friday and I would be at school, not seeing him leave. Well that year he was delayed and left noon Saturday. He decided to pack Friday night. I remember like yesterday he started with his clothes, first underwear, socks, long jons (white cotton square net back then, maybe a union suit) then his camo (green Mil Fatigues), finally his heavy jacket. Then he moved to the cooler and dry box. He had frozen steaks, pork cops, chicken, hot dogs, eggs... Dry he had bread, canned hash, chili, vienna sausage, potted meat, chips,... This is when I started shuffling back and forth. From here he would move to his equipment, deer stands, tent, sleeping bags... Doing his final checks with the truck looking like the Clampetts I softly asks "can I go". Of course the answer was "you have school". That was a sleepless night to say the least. Laying there hearing the TV and my parents murmurs, hoping one would walk in my room and say you want to go? The next morning he did his final walk around placing the last of 150 bungees across the load. The last step was the place the all important rifle in its case and load in the front. As he walked over to kiss my mom bye all I could think is he is going to tell her he is taking me. It never happened and I stood in the drive way crying to my eyes out wanting to be in that truck.

It's been said if you really want to hook a kid leave him in the driveway crying and he is hooked for life. Well it just happened again.

Guys have a great and safe trip to WG this weekend. Bring everyone home, catch the big one, and don't forget to look at the Sun set and give thanks for what we have. Wish I could go.

FLASHBACK - been there, and lots of good memories since.   Thanks for the story, and it's looking like it will be at least the two of us crying in the driveway this weekend!

Yup. Been there done that. Great story. Doing what I can to avoid it this weekend.

Daughter and son in tow. Daughter needs to practice her new electric guitar before she heads off to Sitka for music camp Sunday.

We will try my son on a lake tonight. He's been on the ocean before but starting him off first time this year on halibut is pushing it since he's only ten. Then tomorrow we might hit the salt!  Have no idea what we will do if he hooks up. I guess those are the stories as long as we can keep it safe.
