So I have anchored in a hogline for Spring Chinook on the Columbia in the past, and I am curious as to people's ideas on the feasibility/safety of doing so in a kayak?  I know that the current can get pretty intense at times and wanted to know if people would advise against it or not, and if they thought it was an OK idea, how best to go about doing so.

I fished from a boat yesterday just west of Bonneville and it did not look like it would be safe from a kayak. The current was strong and changed several times from 6AM to 2 PM. When the barges went by, the wake was 1-2 feet. If you were in a kayak on the anchor, it would have been easy to flip. There were about 20 boats in the area but no kayaks. Maybe farther down stream it might be doable. You definitely would need a quick release anchor system with float and maybe leash yourself to your yak. I don't have much experience anchoring in current but felt more comfortable anchoring off the bow like the boats.

I have anchored from a boat near the Cathlamet area in the past and that was where I was thinking. I definitely would want to have plenty of scope in any anchor rope and the ability to detach in a hurry if need be.
