Boated ten in just over an hour last Sunday.   "Willamette Bonefish" that's their new name.  Ate my first and last of these little fighters. Smoked some and pan fried some.  The rest are crab bait.

I plan to hit it tomorrow evening.  I was going to go tonight, but I had parental responsibilities. Were you trolling or on anchor?

Sweet! That's what I like to see. Didn't care for the taste, or just the insane number of bones?  ;D

I was out there this morning (for bass) and the PBs on anchor were already knocking 'em in at 7am.

I'm taking my BIL out on the Oasis tonight. He loves to fish for shad and has been asking me about it for weeks. I haven't fished for them myself. Maybe I'll have some beginner's luck...

They actually taste quite good.  It's the insane number of bones that I don't like.

It was a slow evening of fishing - 4 fish between the two of us in four hours of fishing. We saw only one boat that was on them at all, they landed about 20 in the time we were out there. Everybody else was as slow as we were. However, it was a great night to anchor on the river and drink a few beers. The weather was perfect and the sunset gorgeous.

My BIL took the fish and is going to smoke them. Last time I got smoked shad from him, it was lightly smoked and it was pretty good. You had to peel the meat away from the bones, but he got the texture right - firm and not too dry. It was pretty oily, though. I'll have to see how this batch turns out.

brother-in-law

Technically, Tom is my wife's brother-in-law, as he is married to my wife's sister, but we just go with brother-in-law. Our wives are best friends as well as sisters, so we spend a lot of time together. A lot of time. Fortunately, he and I also get along together very well.

Glad you guys got some. It's definitely slowing down by my estimation, just checking in from shore every so often.

There's still a lot of shad moving through. I fished near the falls with a client on wed and we landed close to 15 Shad within a couple hours. Instead of sitting on anchor troll a Dick Nite behind a small diver. When fishing at the falls, be careful with fast current and keep a safe distance between the boats on anchor.
