Any tips for targeting Sockeye on Columbia around Portland?
Oregon or Washington side. I have not targeted these salmon before but they sound tasty! I am hoping to figure it out eventually, but any one know a good location to start?

Thanks

Always heard they were non biters in the Columbia, but a guy at fishermans marine said plunkers on wa side byI-5 bridge were catching like 4,5 each a day. Before Tuesday, (legal retention).
Coon shrimp, small spin n glo. Double rig setup.6 ft water, early.
Want to believe him, but......
Or gill nets.

We tried today on the Columbia plunking. Hooked one but it came off. Lots of algae in the river right now made it almost impossible to fish.

I've caught them plunking off Sauvie Island.  They really are tasty fish, since they're still very fatty on their way to northern Washington/Canada.  They do tend to have softer mouths.

The only time I have caught one was after I gave up trying for them.  I started trolling a worm harness for walleye and I snagged bottom.  As I turned around the kayak in an attempt to unsnag, a sockeye was kind enough to do so for me.  He tasted real good. Later, I caught another on a 4 inch walleye deep running crank bait. I lost it before I got it in my net.

I hooked one trolling kokanee gear in about 10-15 ft of water last year.  I am going to try the method Dberd mentioned this year.

I trolled a pink hoochie tipped with a prawn tail behind a slingblade at Davis bar Sunday morning.  I marked plenty of fish but didn't even have a take down.
I should have gone shad fishing.

I towed a prawn around chinook landing yesterday afternoon since my summer cold kept me away from the ocean.  Didn't get a nibble.

I have never fished for them down that low, but have caught plenty further up the river on macklures cha cha riggs. Just have to put on  little heavier line dependig on how healthy they are this year.
