Why Pacific City (vs other beaches...)?

Great write up.  I've spear fished there and had the pleasure of carrying 20 lbs of fish plus 30lbs of gear back up the trail to the top parking lot.  That was a very long day.

That hiked must have sucked big time. 

Oh yes, it totally sucked.  But we were expecting a death march anyway.  It was one of those "experiments" you never repeat.
