Anyone have resent experience or launch sites in Oceanside hit the three arches area from the outside in a buddy's pb and if it's surf launchable I'm wanting to hit it hard. Thanks

Some of that area is off limits to fishing.  I think it's related to the birds.  Something about the distance from those big rocks.  Check the regs.

It's 500 ft radius for nesting birds but the reefs out beyond the rocks are great for bottom fishing. I just need to know about the best launching area there. I know it's boatable because we seen this guy about 3 miles out.

I've looked at it for quite awhile, and you would have to pick your days. Oceanside has such a gradual beach, and with no protection, that the breakers just go on and on - there are several sets to go through (and come back through). You would have to pick a real low surf day.

Another possibility is to launch on the north side of Cape Meares. I've gone over there and looked at it, and there was a noticeable rip about a 100yds north of the south end of the beach that knocked down the breakers. Getting out would be fairly easy there, but coming back in would be more challenging.

This area is not for beginners or people lacking good surf skills. I have yet to attempt it myself.

When does Sherman want to give it a try with PC as a backup of course?

I'm the guy in the picture, rowing my wherry off of Oceanside.  It can be a very easy launch on a North swell when the point moderates the waves.  But beware the strong southerly current at times.  Also at high tide sometimes the waves bend around the point and come in almost sideways down the beach, on top of the normal waves.

But on a small surf day it's very doable.  I do well straight out on the reef for lings and black rockfish.  A handheld chartplotter clearly shows the reef peaks, plus there are often larger boats out there so you will be able to collect waypoints quickly.

Last year was very good for coho on the wherry as well.  There is often a rip coming off Three Arch Rocks that holds fish.
