Definitely not a permanent solution, but for what they are, they work really well. Beats dicking with foam blocks. We hauled ass down I-95 with 2 kayaks on it. Only drawback was when it rains the water pours in down the straps because the door seals get pulled back. Way better than rolling up hotel towels when you are on vacation.

Malone HandiRack™ Inflatable Roof Racks

They *could* be a permanent solution...  Those inflatable tube racks are what I've been using for 4+ yrs now  :D  Elie Gulf 120XL atop a Honda Civic Hybrid and they work fine.

Jim the kayaks ride good with the inflatable rack?? Do you just strap it front and back? I dont really have any good tie points on the front of my car just the back.

Yes, it does fine with mine.  There are straps across the boat on each tube for lateral tie-down, and I have straps front and back, 1" adjustable web with S hooks.  Front ones clip to the tow hooks underneath the engine.  Rear end, one clips to a piece of bracket for the exhaust pipe and the other to a hole in the frame itself.  I just leave those straps attached to the boat and bundle them up when I launch.

Most of my trips are just around the local area, over on the peninsula, but I have taken it up to Mukilteo up North without any problems.
